Let's Get Topical (SNS week of 10/16/2016)

Behind once again by a few weeks.  I write this one day after the  election, but right now I am covering about a month ago.  I will keep this and the next few brief.    The Hounds of Winter keep their top spot with "Oh Paige", maintaining a slim lead over Santana's "Blues Magic" at #2.  Positions 3 through 7 hold and "Better Man" by Leon Bridges enters the top 10.  Six entries reach our top 20, spearheaded by "My Things" by Trails and Ways (28-15) and Maybird's "Turning Into Water" (33-17), the band's first in the top section.  Halo Circus and St. Paul and the Broken Bones each get their fourth top 20's as well.   

The hot debut of the week has a lot to do with the controversial election between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.    The topic of their third and final debate, becomes enshrined in a novelty song and video featuring novelty act The Gregory Brothers and featuring Weird Al Yankovic.   It's Weird Al's second entry into my SNS 100, and it takes soundbites from this week's debate.    The video is well done and the song is pretty awesome too.   Regardless of who you are voting for, you'll get a kick out of this.

Except for the Nashville-based indie pop group Paper Route, who enter with "Chariots", the rest of the debuts are veterans, each making my top 10 at one time or another.   Capital Cities, who have previously scored with "Safe and Sound"   and "Kangaroo Court" are back with "Vowels"; Lady Gaga begins the next phase of her career with a return to contemporary pop (albeit with a more down to earth approach) with "Perfect Illusion", and Calvin Harris enters with "My Way", his best single in awhile.
