The band, however is not done yet. The Top Debut at a lofty #53 is the new single "Live in the Moment", which is a more melodic song than the hit. It's getting Triple-A and Alternative play, but if past experience is true, probably won't go pop. Another track from their Woodstock set, "Rich Friends", also continues to move upward, 75-64.
Aside from P.TM, the other hot band, at least with me, has to be Cold War Kids, like P.TM, an unknown band I followed several years back. Both "Invincible" (#9), and "So Tied Up" (#10), the latter featuring Bishop Briggs, both enter the top 10. Both make impressive moves. By the way, no artist has ever had both the numbers one and two in any given week. Adele came so close in June of 2011 when "Someone Like You" was number 2, and "Rumour Has It was number 3.
The big entry into the top 20 this week is Long Island-based Offguard as "Strawberry Moon" jumps 29-15 for their second top 20 SNS hit. An album is now out as well, Set the Scene. I will try to have a review of it soon.
THE VOICES OF IDOLS: Depending on the day you ask me, I have varied opinions on the reality competition shows about music, namely The Voice, in season 12, and American Idol, which is being resurrected this coming winter. For much of this decade, the singers who competed and won on these shows have made little or no impact; surely not on the level as the first twelve seasons of "Idol". But between those contestant who did make an impact on "Idol" to the judges on "The Voice", they seem to be doing well for themselves on my list these days. Between the main list and the Tremors, there are seven songs either by judges, contestants, or both on the list. Haley Reinhart, from "Idol" season 10, leads the parade with her remake of "Baby It's You", which drops to 16 from its peak last week of 13. Miley Cyrus, a coach on "The Voice", appears twice. Her chart-topping "Malibu" drops a notch to 35 which her follow-up, "Younger Now" bullets at #53. "The Fighter" which featured Keith Urban (an "Idol" judge the last three seasons), along with Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood, is still hanging in there at #69.
Kelly Clarkson, the original "Idol" winner of Season 1, is back with a new song, "Love So Soft" which enters at #95. In addition to her prize on that show, she is also a mentor on this season's "The Voice" and will be a coach next season.
Two other "Voice" coaches are on the tremors list this week. Blake Shelton's "She's Got a Way With Words" and "What Lovers Do" by Maroon 5, fronted by Adam Levine.
TAKE YOUR TIME: One intriguing entry on this week's list, at #100, is "Can't Stop This Feeling" (no relation to the Justin Timberlake song), by King Tappa, a reggae/dancehill artist from St. Lucia, and currently resides in Irvington NJ. His real name is Kurt Prince, and he impressed way back in 2007 with "Take Your Time", which was one of my top songs of that year, one of the first songs to populate my iPod. The song came up on shuffle recently and prompted me to wonder what he's doing now.
So, how did we find out about him. Actually Tappa, whose real name is Kurt Prince, worked as a reviewer alongside my wife Barbara back in the mid-2000's at the Parsippany-based company Solix. "Take Your Time" also featured another Solix employee on it who had some blog chart success here: Phil Alessi, whose band Dark Sacrament hit my top 20 in 2011 with "Realm of Light". (Phil's sister Christina, also recently had an SNS hit with "Leave the Light On). Reggae is nothing new to my blog, with acts like Peppers, The Big Takeover, and Wild Belle, making big impacts.
