This is the first of several "catch-up" blogs as I unexpectedly took a two month vacation. I am writing this in mid-July. It's not yet certain whether I will put blog entries for the two week intervals leading up to the present, but I will try. If not I will jump ahead. The chart below was complied in late May; the others will be done either published, nor not published.
Anyway, Foster the People remains at the top spot, it has now been there for five weeks; and it heads off Pharrell Williams' popular "Happy", which probably will be the well-deserved pop song of the year. Next is "Fever" by The Black Keys, one of my fave bands out there right now, this song has a lot of hooks to it, and have been excited about it as well as the forthcoming album. MS MR "Think of You" is coming in like gangbusters; this soulful entry jumps to #4, although it's not catching on like it should. .
Both MS MR, and Junior Prom, which enters the top 20 with "Sheila Put the Knife Down", have gotten much airplay on Sirius XM's Alt-Nation channel.
Two female artists that I have liked in the past debut on the chart this week: Lily Allen, whose "Smile" was my #1 song of 2007, is back with 'Hard Out There" from her new album Sheezus, and Lana Del Rey, who was all over my chart last year, most notably with "Ride" but also with the top 10 national hit "Summertime Sadness", is back with "West Coast". You can also add Lykke Li, who had a couple of SNS hits a couple years back, with "No Rest for the Wicked".
Finally at #100, is probably the final appearance for Fitz & the Tantrums' "Out of My League", as it logs week number 62 (and will log 63 since the next chart will be in two weeks). What a run...it's a shame it never cracked the Billboard Hot 100..
