ONCE AGAIN, very sorry that this is late, so this will be a "bare bones" blog, covering the basics: Hot 100, SNS 100 and debuts.
HOT 100: "Luther" by Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA continues at the top for a 9th week. "Die With a Smile" moves back into the runner-up spot. In its 35th week, that song by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars has been hovering near the top. And unlike other songs that stick around ad infinitum, it's doing the same on my chart: It's still #60 after 32 weeks on the blog list. The Lamar/Drake feud is eased somewhat as the latter's "Nokia" drops to #3. Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club" moves to a new high at #4 after 44 weeks, and the song I mentioned last week, "Ordinary "by Alex Warren continues a steady climb to #5, and also debuts here at #98. Shaboozey's "A Bar Song" is STILL #6, and Teddy Swim's "Lose Control" is #7 in its 87th week, four off the record by "Heat Waves" by Glass Animals. I believe last week, "Lose Control" did break a record by The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" for most weeks in the top 10 with 58. "Beautiful Things" is still #9 after 64 weeks.

Michael Nau's "No Quit", originally released in 2019, hits the top spot on the SNS 100 this week. |
SNS 100: On my chart, we have another new #1, that being Michael Nau's "No Quit". The song, released in 2019 was featured on Spotify because it was similar to other music I was listening to, and struck a chord with me. The first week I heard it, I played it 12 times, and no doubt that contributed to its rise to the top. I will be featuring the artist's more recent work soon.
Beach music songs occupy the next two positions (as well as the two top debuts, for the second week in a row) as the heavyweights in that genre gear up for summertime. Sylvia Johns Ritchie's "My Heart Knows You By Heart" moves 4-2, and Deb Browning and Michael Fites' "I Never Wanted To" advance 4-2, and 5-3, respectively. With Starbuck's "Beach Radio" having topped the charts two weeks ago, that means the three artists in the genre who hit #1 on the SNS 100 last year, have all hit the top three again so far in 2025, the only artists to do so thus far. Starbuck topped the list last year with "Spring Break Shake", Ms. Ritchie with "Good Love Don't Come Easy", and Ms. Browning with "Sunshine and Summertime" (with Marlisa Kay Small).
Last week's chart topper, The Black Keys' "The Night Before" drops to #4, and "Beach Radio" to #5. Billie Eilish has her second blog top 10 as "Wildflower" moves 12-9. Rivermist makes it four beach songs in the Top 10 as "Oceans Apart", after being stuck at #14 for four weeks straight, moves to #10. But the beach blitz continues as The Mac Daddy's Band's "Seaside in the Sand" advances 19-11, M.T. Jones' "I'd Be Lying" grabs the Impact of the Week honors in a 22-14 advance, and The Tonez' "Flip Flops" moves 26-16. The seven songs in the top 20 by Carolina beach artists are the most in a while in that portion of the chart.
Also entering the blog top 20 are Ashley Clark and Matthew Simon Clark's "Liberty" (24-17) and Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "60 Years Ago" (25-19).
Further down, the beach "comeback" continues with last week's Top Debut, Deb Browning's solo effort "Does Your Baby Got Your Back" moving 59-33 and Jerry Powell's "Dance With Me" grabbing Mover of the Week honors with "Dance With Me" (71-40).
DEBUTS: Once again as with last week, the two highest entries this week are from the Grand Strand. Starbuck, coming off a #1 with "Beach Radio" quickly follows that up with "Who's Gonna Love You", entering at #75. It's a bit of a departure for the Bruce Blackman project as it has sort of a Jerry Lee Lewis-rockabilly country vibe to it. The song reminds me a bit of Billy Swan's 1974 hit "I Can Help". Several country stations are already on the song. It was recorded at the Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama with Mac MacAnally on guitar. Actually, the song goes back to Blackman's roots in the Mississippi River Delta, in which he spent his early years playing blues and boogie music that was popular in the area. Thus, it's a full circle of sorts for Bruce.
One of the most popular bands on the Grand Strand is the Rick Strickland Band, which features Rick along with vocalist Lesa Hudson. While they are awesome with their individual releases, when they release a duet, it's pure dynamite. That was true two years ago when Rick and Lesa dropped "Got It Right (The First Time)", which spent five weeks at #1 and came in #2 for the year of 2023. Their new one is "All Because of You", which takes them in a different direction, but still a worthwhile one. The beginning melody reminds me a bit of Henry Gross' "Shannon" from 1976 but that's where the similarity ends. Both Rick and Lesa's vocals are very heartfelt and sentimental. It tugs the heart and it's another winner as a result. A great "smoothie" that will get those shaggers out on the dance floor.
The next two debuts are by two of my favorite pop stars, Ed Sheeran and Miley Cyrus. Say what you will about them, especially Miley, but I am enjoying her recent output, and together, they've combined for seven blog #1's, and Sheeran is one of only a handful of artists who have been able to top my year-end lists more than once.
Miley's "End of the World" enters at #81 and is a rather uptempo, moving pop gem. While not as immediate as her big "Flowers" hit, nor heart-tugging as "Malibu" or "Midnight Sky", it's a persistent piece, and Ms. Cyrus keeps things moving along, and not letting go. Still heartfelt and all and should be another good showing on my blog. Unfortunately, with all the stagnation on the Hot 100 these days, it only debuted at #52 on the big chart and dropped to #69 this week. To be honest, I like this one better than "Flowers". Too bad.
As for Ed Sheeran, his new one, "Azizam", is another departure for the artist. This one also is persistent, with a shuffling beat, and catchy. Definitely some potent pop, with the beat reminds me a bit of Elvis Costello's "The Only Flame in Town". But, like Miley, the song debuted only at #28 and drops to #39. Can streamers stop with those played-out songs at the top of chart and focus on both of these worthy songs by proven artists? Both songs are moving up the Hot AC chart, Miley #16 and Ed at #9, so we'll see.
Also debuting is "Thrive" by Claire Davis, which is a great feel-good groove that has those beach music qualities; in fact, it's #2 on John Hook's Beach Music Top 40 list this week, behind Lenny Kravitz's "Honey" (#69 on my list). This one has a soulful vibe, reminding me of vintage artists such as Barbara Lewis, for example. This one should do very well.

Canadian alt-pop artist Harley Olivia makes her blog debut with "Diggin'" |
Next is Canadian Harley Olivia with her blog debut "Diggin'". This artist came to me via an Instagram post showing up in my feed. She is close with her fans and always responds to any comments they may have. An artist with a great rapport with those who follow her is a good thing. She is definitely on the alt-rock lane, combining pop and rock sensibilities, and has sort of an Amy Lee vibe to her. She is flashy and flamboyant in a positive way, and it shows in her music, which to this listener, is something that she really enjoys doing. She is based in Toronto and has done live feeds on social media and has successfully connected with her growing legion of fans.
With Harley, Ruth Morayniss, The Beaches and Einsteins Dad's Richard Bradley all based in Toronto, could that town be the next "big thing" on my blog? We shall see, but there's a lot of talent coming from there these days.
Then we have "Chance" by Think and pMad, the latter coming off a charter with "Feed". Both artists are based in Ireland, and for pMad it's a change from his Pink Floyd-ish prior song. This one is sort of a post-grunge thing which should great several spins.
Finally, as mentioned above, I add the Alex Warren pop hit, "Ordinary". The artist, from California is doing a contemporary pop vibe leaning towards alt-folk, and it's great to see songs like this get a chance to be a hit, as its current top five stance indicates. There should be more variety up there, and this one fits the bill.
