To my readers. I know this is very late. I composed this chart last week and it will be presented below. As many of you know, I had a freak accident while geocaching on Saturday, as I stepped on a ground hive of yellowjackets, got stung 30+ times, and passed out three times. Thanks to two of my friends who were with me, they called 9-1-1 and one delivered CPR to revive me. I was quickly taken to the ER at Bayshore Community Medical Center in Holmdel NJ, where they had done various tests on my heart and other concerns. I felt myself later that night as I stayed over for observation and was discharged on Sunday. Only now am I getting to my blog.
I had so many things to discuss this past week. Country music scored another #1 (that's four in a row, if you're keeping track) when, as predicted, Zach Bryan and Kasey Musgraves' "I Remember Everything" debuted at #1. We lost two noted musicians last week. Gary Wright, who grew up in Cresskill NJ and was part of the British band Spooky Tooth and performed with many notable musicians such as George Harrison, B.B.King, Foreigner's Mick Jones, and many others. He had back-to-back #2 hits with "Dream Weaver" and "Love is Alive", both from 1976, but my favorite of his was 1981's "I Really Want to Know You". We also lost Steve Harwell, the lead singer for alt-pop band Smash Mouth. The band had two top ten's 'Walkin' On the Sun" (1997) and "All-Star", and the #11 "When the Morning Comes" (both 1999).
I was also going to discuss the upcoming annual Roselle Park Arts Festival (September 30), as well as some words about Charlotte Sessions, who lives there and will perform. I added her song, "Should I Be the Man" this week. Also, the next blog will close out the annual "Song of the Summer" contest.
Finally, beach music scores another #1 on the SNS 100 as "Caught Up" by The Tonez, featuring Laura Kepley, hits the top. It's the seventh beach music song to top my chart this year, and the sixth to feature at least one of the "Carolina Queens" of "Shoop Shoop Song" fame. Iration, Lesa Hudson, Taylor Swift and Hozier round out the top five.
Fall Out Boy's cover of "We Didn't Start the Fire" lands the Impact award (39-16), Thee Sacred Souls, and The Record Company also enter the top 20. Oliver Anthony's "Rich Men North of Richmond", although it drops to #6 on the Hot 100 after two weeks at #1, does score the Mover award here (62-42), but Starbuck's "On the Sand" also is a big mover (61-41). "Dancing On My Own" by The Regrettes, a cover of a Dance Club hit in 2010 by Swedish singer Robyn, advances from the Tremors list to nab Top Debut. New on my charts this week include the aforementioned Luke Bryan/Kasey Musgraves song "I Remember Everything", the latest from Miley Cyrus, the nice ballad "Used To Be Young". The return of Black Pumas with "More Than a Love Song", "Desire", the Cannons' follow-up to "Loving You", and the aforementioned Charlotte Sessions' "Should I Be the Man". Entering Tremors is '"White Horse" by Chris Stapleton, "NYE" by Local Natives featuring Suki Waterhouse, the Natives' follow-up to the #2 "Just Before Morning", and Chicago-based/Internet band The Wheelgunners' "Girls Alright" which features Italy-based drummer Daniele Silvestri, who also drums for Einsteins Dad. Silvestri sent me an email introducing himself and his band's music. This song captures the classic 1970's rock sound but still sounding fresh. Finally, beach music entity The Sand Band enter with their beach hit "I'll Come Running Back to You".
I hope to have this week's blog out sometime later this week.
