Playlist for week of 6/28/2020

(Note:  Since I am a week behind, this will just be a playlist blog.   The next blog will focus on the passing of country and southern rock legend Charlie Daniels)

Pepper continues to lead the list with "Change" with Donna Missal's "Let You Let Me Down" keeping pace in the runner-up position.    ScreenAge gets its second straight top 10 with "Blue Eyed Addiction".

Six adds this week, lead by Bakar's 'Hell N Back" which tops Billboard's Triple-A chart this week.   Born Abubakar Shariff-Farr in the Camden section of London, the singer has released one full length album Badkid, in 2018.   "Hell N Back" is from his second release, Will You Be My Yellow?   It has a northern soul/Carolina beach music vibe to it, a rather good-timely.    His influences include Foals, and has been compared to the band Bloc Party as well.   His music is described as a melting pot of rock, rap, punk and indie.   Obviously, this song has a lot of soul to it as well.    This actually was a late discovery of mine, but well worth it.   An artist to watch, the song is also top 20 on Alternative radio as well.

I also add girl group The Regrettes latest, "What Am I Gonna Do Today".  The punk band from LA has been a regular on my playlist for a few years now, with a slew of mid-charting songs.   This time, they slow it down a bit for an emotional pop gem that hits home with me.    Their "Come Through" hit my top 5 in 2018 but this one has a good chance to equal it.

I also take a look at Phoebe Bridgers, as suggested by Brian Sniatkowski a couple weeks back.   The song, "Kyoto" is in the middle of the pack at Triple-A and fit right in with the current spate of female indie artists like Caroline Rose, King Princess, and Courtney Barnett, just to name three.   Women artists are doing very well at the top of my list right now, so this is a good bet for my top 20.   The Lumineers return with "Salt and the Sea", and two newcomers to my playlist, John Craigie, an indie-folk/Americana artist from the west coast who has been compared to Woody Guthrie with "Part Wolf", and Bahamas, a musician (real name Afie Jurvanen) from Ontario, Canada debuting with "Way With Words".
