Once again, it's "Old Town Road" taking the top spot, despite it being weeks removed from its historic 19 week run on the Billboard Hot 100. However, it drops in points here this week after a big spike up last week in the wake of the Billy Ray Cyrus concert. The Black Keys and Foster the People are in a virtual tie for the runner up spot, with "Go" getting the nod as it had more points the previous week; however "Imagination" is an awesome song (without any chart accolades) and is a good bet for the top spot next week. "Go" has been #1 for six weeks on Billboard's Adult Album Alternative (Triple-A) charts for six weeks, and after a hiccup a couple weeks back, attains a new peak on the alternative chart at #13. "Kombucha", another song I'm watching on the alternative chart, holds at #11, as it moves to #37 on Billboard after three weeks stuck at #39. Nick Waterhouse and Fitz and the Tantrums are a strong bulleted 5 and 6, respectively.
Grace Potter has the Top Debut this week, "Love is Love", her first release in four years. It's from her forthcoming third solo effort "Daylight", due in October. It's the end of the summer, but ironically two of the debuts have "summer" in the title, Incubus' "Into the Summer" and Villagers' 'Summer Song". "2all" is the latest from Catfish & the Bottlemen, following up the top 10 "Longshot". Also new is "Letting Go" by Wild Nothing. That act, which is actually Jack Tatum, had two big top 10's here on my blog, "Nothing" (#4, 2012), and "Shadow" (#8, 2013), then pretty much disappeared. Apparently, I missed out on a bunch of 2016 singles, as well as more recent releases from 2018, of which "Letting Go" is one of them. I may have to explore them all as I had done with Tennis a couple years back.
My "song of the summer" blog will be dated September 15, two issues from now.
