You are most likely reading this (if you're reading this at all) around December 11, one whole month after the date of this blog. Seems that once again, I've fallen behind in the blog, but unlike some other "hiatuses" I've done, this one was pretty much beyond my control. I knew that I was going to be away for Thanksgiving week, visiting my wife's family down in Florida. It was a nice time, with temperatures very comfortable in the 70's (as opposed to the 7 degrees at home Thanksgiving morning). Music, both old and new, went on the back burner. We returned home on Saturday November 24, and got resettled. We had an issue with a new product we bought a few weeks earlier, and we called that product's support. Unfortunately, it wasn't the right number and wound up talking to scammers who tried to trace the problem to my personal computer, saying that a slight interruption could be from outsiders breaking in. Turns out the only ones breaking in were these support people, who I unwittingly allowed them to control my computer. Their "proposal" for fixing the problem would cost us $140. We said no, but the damage was done, they had become the "administrators" of my 8-year old PC.
It wasn't apparent until the next day which I tried to open my 2018 music spreadsheet, the one used to determine the ranking on my iPod playlist. I couldn't open the spreadsheet as for some reason, the Excel program wouldn't open. So I rebooted my computer, only to find that I couldn't do anything: open a program, copy files, connect to the Internet, nothing. Tech support couldn't help me over the phone, so I brought it to my local Staples. They spent three days trying to run a diagnostic program, to no avail. Thus I had to resort to buying a new computer. It was just as well; my old one was eight years old and had Windows 7, but it was still running great. Tantamount to the purchase, I needed to make sure my old files did transfer, otherwise, years of work would go for naught, and would have to shelve my blog a year earlier than expected.
Fortunately, they were able to save my files, and nine days after the problem occurred, I brought home my computer, Excel files intact. Good news there. Not so good news, however was that I forget to have my iTunes library transferred over. Thus, I had no access to any music files. I was able to get back my purchased files thru iTunes, but none of the ripped songs from CD's nor my Amazon-purchased mp3's were there.
I plan on using a second-party app to get these files back from my iPod, but in the mean time, I was now five weeks behind on my blog. I spent the better part of today, December 10, adding new songs to my would-be playlist, the first of which, dated November 11, appears below. Because of the situation, the requirement that these songs must be available for download, has been waived.
For the blogs dated November 18, 25, and December 2, it will just consist of my SNS 100. There are some issues to blog about, and will do that when I catch up. The biggest issue is the banning of the holiday song "Baby It's Cold Outside" by some holiday stations; which I will discuss.
As for as the November 11, list, The Revivalists hold on for a fourth week at the top, with "All My Friends", while Pennsylvania's Shannon Marsyada has the top debut with the title track from her forthcoming album "Oceans", at #60.
