SNS 100 for Week of 5/1/2016

Hello, everyone.     As you are quite aware, I had recently gotten the graveyard shift at a local hotel, which leave me pretty much tired during the days.    Thus the blog gets the short end of the deal.     Rather than combine weeks (as I've been doing a lot lately), I am, for the next few editions, at least, just publishing my SNS 100 with just a few notes on the current songs I am listening to.    Once I catch up, I will once again provide some insight regarding my music experiences past and present.


AT THE TOP:  Fitz & the Tantrums remain at the top spot for a second week with "HandClap".  The song has reached the top 10 on the alternative chart, and WEQX finally added the song.  It has a comfortable lead over the #2 "Run or Hide" by Run River North.   Foals' "Give It All", a former #1, inches down to #3, with the rest of the top eight maintaining last week's positions.   The big mover into the top 10 is Ray Lamontagne's "Hey No Pressure", a songs which has been going through my head lately, and what with my annual Roscoe camping trip coming up, a surefire song for that event.  It moves from #15 to #8.

Paul Czekaj, who I had the pleasure of getting together with him and his wife at Lake Hopatcong's Jefferson House recently, garners his seventh top 20, with his song about drug abuse, "Up in the Sky", and there are other top 20 debuts from Santigold, Gwen Stefani (her second straight in that area), and the third straight from American Idol alum Allison Ireheta and Halo Circus, "Desire".

NEW AND NOTEWORTHY:    The top debut is from the veteran band Garbage, "Empty" from their upcoming sixth album Strange Little Birds.   SNS veterans The Mowgli's also enter with "Freakin' Me Out", and the other debuts are by bands that had blog success before.   Twenty-One Pilots' "Ride" is the current alternative #1, and is the follow-up to their top 5 pop smash "Stressed Out".  The Dreamers "Drugs" is a harder-driven follow-up to their SNS top 3 "Wolves (You Got Me).".
