THIS ONE IS LATE, and thus be rather brief as can be.
HOT 100: As probably expected and in the wake of the Super Bowl Halftime show, Bad Bunny takes the top spot with "DTMF". The song, which reentered the chart at #10 in anticipation of his performance, is one of four songs the Puerto Rican rapper has in the top ten (including the top two), and several of his other songs reenter as well. He has 19 songs on the chart this week.
But then there's J. Cole, who, to be honest, I am not familiar with, but apparently, he has been doing well on the charts the last several years as each of his seven albums have hit #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and that includes his new one, The Fall-Off. Twenty-one of his tracks entered the Hot 100 this week, with the highest "Two Six" entering at #15. So, contrasting with just a few weeks ago, when there was no rap songs in the top 40 of the chart, forty songs between the two of them are on the Hot 100 this week. Seems like "old times", right?
Of course, we still have Alex Warren's "Ordinary" at #6 and Huntrix's "Golden" at #9, so those have yet to be "scoured out". Most likely the Bad Bunny songs should fall off quickly and probably will be replaced by songs that have been there already. But I would still like to see Olivia Dean's "So Easy (To Fall in Love)" (#17) join "Man I Need" (#3) in the top 10 soon. By the way, "DTMF" is only the fourth song sung (all or part) in Spanish to hit #1 on the Hot 100. Bad Bunny is the first to do it as a strictly solo act (i.e. without collaboration or featured artist). "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi has a collaboration with Daddy Yankee (and on some remixes, Justin Bieber), while the other two, "Macarena" by Los Del Rio and "La Bamba" by Los Lobos, were by duos and groups, respectively.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, I also have to mention that the "alternate" show put on by Turning Point USA produced a Hot 100 debut: Kid Rock's "Til You Can't", which he had performed at that show. The song, originally done by Cody Johnson in 2021, enters at #69. And while I'm at it, Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Minneapolis" still isn't on the Hot 100 but is on the Triple-A chart.
SNS 100: Moving to my chart, it's a third week at #1 for "Every Road" by Rick Strickland and Lesa Hudson as it barely holds off the charging "How Can I Tell You? (To Love Me More)" by Brooke Combe which moves 3-2. "Every Road" is doing well in beach music circles, as it also tops three charts in that genre. Meanwhile, Bruno Mars' "I Just Might" moves 6-3. The song is also at #10 on the Hot 100, in which it had debuted at #1 three weeks ago. The song is also getting beach music airplay; it sits at #13 on Don Mark's Surfside Top 20 chart. Deb Browning and Michael Fite's "Getaway Car" is still hanging tough at #4, up a notch. The song's video just came out, and the song is still gaining on beach charts. The duet, which had a five-week run at #2 a while back is showing signed of resurging as a result. "Pretty Lady" by North Tower completes the top five. The song, which had a record 12-week run at the top, is STILL topping a few beach charts, including a 22nd week topping Pat Gwinn's At The Beach listing.
Two new entries in the top 10 include Ella Langley's former Hot 100 #1 (and still at #4), "Choosin' Texas" (13-9), and Bradley Denniston's "Backbone Lover" (16-10), his second straight blog top 10 showing. Just outside the top 10 are two big movers, "No Place Like New Orleans" by Sylvia Johns Ritchie (19-11) and Stephen Sanchez's "Sweet Love" (20-12).
New to the top 20 are four entries, topped by The Womack Sisters' "I Just Don't Want You To Say Goodbye" garnering Impact honors (29-15). The Pozers' "The Separation" (25-17), Olivia Dean's "So Easy (To Fall in Love)" (24-18), and Orbis Max's "Not Getting Back with You" (27-20), also enter this portion of the chart.
Just outside the top 20 are big movers, two of them by Brooke Combe from earlier albums, "This Town" (46-21, Mover of the Week), and "A-Game" (47-23), sandwiched around MT Jones' "I Don't Understand" (34-22). The Jay Vons' "I Was Wrong to Love You" (49-26), and Jennifer Licko's "Meet Me at the Shag Pad" (44-27) are also big movers in the 20's.

| Sombr has the Top Debut with "Homewrecker" |
NEWBIES: The Top Debut goes to Sombr, with "Homewrecker". The artist, born Shane Michael Boose, has three songs on the Hot 100, and now his third on SNS. "Back to Friends" was recently in the top 10 of the big chart, and still #13, while "12 to 12" is near the top of the alternative airplay chart, and also on the Hot 100 at #61. Both songs hit my top 30 as well. However, the new one, "Homewrecker" (#31 Hot 100, #62, SNS 100) is probably, in my opinion his best yet. It's a bit more emotional and more of a pop slant than the previous two songs, but it's right down my alley. Should be his biggest on my chart to date.
Steve Cheek follows his #1 "Beach Walkin'" with his latest, "Sugar With My Coffee", coming in at #77. Set to a steady Latin-lilted, reggae-ish beat, it's the story for a girl the singer meets at a coffee shop. Smart beach outlets should play this back-to-back with Starbuck's current "Robusto". Should be another hit for Cheek. Anna Lavigne's third song culled from her current Night Dreams, "Light" is set to a rather bluesy-rock, haunted beat. Somewhat reminiscent of her "Mindblown", this is a cool song that you might have expected from a southern blues band, but Ms. Lavigne makes it her own. It comes in at #82 and should be yet another blog hit for the Scottish singer.
Next is Rikas with "Last Train to London", a cover of the Electric Light Orchestra song from 1979. Pretty much true to the original here, but it was one of my favorite ELO songs back in the day, so it should do well on SNS. It enters at #84. Next are two artists who scored a couple years back as part of the female singer-songwriter invasion here. Arlo Parks' "2SIDED" (#88) is a mid-tempo, rather dreamy excursion. While not as appealing as her 2023 blog hit "Weightless", this is appealing enough for a good lengthy run. Meanwhile, Mitski enters with "Where's My Phone" (#86). This one is a mover, a lot going on here. This artist had a #3 blog hit in 2022 with "The Only Heartbreaker" and several more charters since, and this one has a lot going for it in its presentation.
Rev. Bubba Deliverance and the Cornhole Prophets return after a hiatus and enter at #90 with "Wish You Were Here". A song about the good life, but only one thing missing (as the song states). A tropical song, without sounding too tropical, but still one to enjoy in the warm sunshine. Iron & Wine enter with "In Your Ocean" (#94), definitely in the alt-folk vein. Finally, we have Matt Maeson's "Downstairs" (#96), a mid-tempo song strictly in the blues alt-rock lane that could click with a few listens.
