THIS ONE will be quick as I will be going away for a couple of days, to a geocaching event (I'm sure many of you are still wondering what that actually is!).
In a competitive chart once again this week, The Main Event Band featuring Sharon Woodruff's take on "Love Makes the World Go Around" holds off a charge from another cover, Marlisa Kay Small and Jerry West's "Love Really Hurts Without You", to stay at #1 on the SNS 100 for a second week. Close by at #3 is Orbis Max's "R U OK", and Thee Sacred Souls' "Love Is The Way". But closing in on the top group is Colorjoy's "Blue Eyed Addiction (Renewed Version)" (9-5), and "Don't You Dare Stop" by Say She She (20-6). Conceivably, any of these six songs could make it to the top next week.
The rest of the Top 20 is pretty quiet with the exceptions of Jerry Powell's "One More Summer Night" grabbing the Impact Award (25-16), and The Tonez' "Caught Up" (30-20) entering the region. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band's "Day In The Sun" gets the Mover of the Week award (69-43).
JAM UP: Although there are eight adds to the playlist this week, only three of them actually make the SNS 100, as the plethora of songs are causing an overload on the playlist. The reason for this is in part due to the ease in adding songs from Spotify, as well as many awesome songs that have come out this year, and thus there is no room for it. The nine songs on the "Tremors" list (my version of the "bubbling under" for songs that don't have enough points to enter the main chart), are the most in several years.
Four songs did manage to make it to the SNS 100. The Top Debut this week is Lesa Hudson's "Count On Me". Ms. Hudson is coming off her duet with Rick Strickland's "Got It Right (The First Time)", which logged five weeks at #1 earlier this year and is still strong at #14. The new song was culled from their joint album Power of Two. Sort of a change of pace from her prior singles, this is a sentimental, mid-tempo assurance that "you've got a friend in me". Ms. Hudson sings with emotion and should result in another blog (and beach) hit. A winner.
Rev. Bubba D. Liverance and the Cornhole Prophets follow their #1 "Ti Ta Ti Ta Ti Ta Ta" with "Dreamsicle", a new recording which will be included on a new album, Expect No Mercy, due in 2024. In the meantime, singles will be released from it, and this is the first one. It's a worthy follow-up to the #1 blog hit; it combines a great pop hook with horns and is reminiscent of bands like vintage John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, and Southside Johnny, but with the Carolina beach stamp on it. Should make it three in a row for Bubba and the gang.
Harry Styles had one of the biggest songs of 2022 with "As It Was", and the new single "Satellite", also from his Harry's House set, is a bit of a change of pace as it starts very slow, picks up a bit and is rather uneven, but that is its appeal. It does build up a bit towards the end and rather explosive, thus it may make a mark on the charts for a while.
New songs added to the Tremors list include Sylvia Johns Ritchie's "When I Wish For You", a soulful and emotional, moving song with horns that gets better with repeated listening; Highwind, making its blog debut is another attempt in adding local New Jersey bands to the playlist; "Never Sitting Pretty". The song is a chugging rock confection that is melodic enough to be catchy. The duo is based in Asbury Park. The Cat 5 Band, featuring Tim Sidden, returns with "What Is Love Got To Do With You", a rather jazzy thing complete with horns and keys; Paramore's "This Is Why" spent a few weeks on the chart last year, gets a second chance; Finally, Kelly Clarkson's "Mine" is a ballad that showcases the soulfulness of her voice. Could make some noise.
