Anna Lavigne Succeeds Herself at #1; Red Hot Chili Peppers Top Debuts (SNS week of 2/6/2022)

HELLO ALL:  This blog, as it is very late (I had gone up to Vermont to ski with some friends this past week and of course there was the Superbowl on Sunday February 13, of which I need to say a few words on the halftime show, but that will be for next week.

Anna Lavigne knocks herself out of number one as "This Time" from her latest album Roses for the Ride replaces her "Dance the Night Away" from her debut Angels in Sandshoes which had been at the top for four weeks.    Ms. Lavigne becomes the third act to succeed itself at #1, following The Revivalists in early 2019, and, at two different times during 2021, ScreenAge.

With the rest of the top 10 (and beyond) not posing any serious threat for the top (both of her songs are well ahead of the pack), there's a possibility that she could succeed herself a third time as "Mindblown", also from Roses, moves 28-16.    The only song that could stand in her way would be Tim Izzard's awesome "Empty My Heart", garnering Impact honors in a 30-15 move.

Briefly, I have added eight new songs this week, spearheaded by the long-awaited Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Black Summer", from their new album Unlimited Love, due out April 1.   This is their first new material since 2016's The Getaway which yielded a blog #1, "Dark Necessities".... a song I heard up on my Vermont trip on an Internet radio station, "A Dull Boy" by Papercuts has the second highest debut.... I add TWO songs by Zac Brown Band as that contingent releases an "A" and "B" side (to use old 45 rpm jargon) to follow up Brown's top 10 "Same Boat".  "Out in the Middle" is the official single that has hit the country charts, but "Old Love Song" is getting airplay on Carolina Beach Music radio stations.... Ed Sheeran goes for his third hit from "=" with "Overpass Graffiti".  This one rocks a bit gently and might top "Shivers", at least here.... Twenty-One Pilots, which has topped alternative charts the last couple weeks, enter here with the synth-pop-driven "Outside", and GAYLE's "abcdefu" which is a pop hit (also getting some alternative airplay) round out the debuts.
