This one will be really brief.
One British singer knocks out another as Hexham, Northumberland's Jade Bird's "Headstart" ascends 3-1 to end Camdentown, London's Bakar's six week reign at the top with "1st Time", although that song remains for a second week at #1 on Billboard's Triple-A listing. Bakar drops to #3, behind New Jerseyan Elise Farnsworth's "Pixie Dust" which holds at #2 for a fourth straight week. The top three songs are bunched up, six points separate the three, and conceivably any of the three have a chance next week. Meanwhile, another "Jersey Girl" whose name starts with "E", Emily MacMahon advances 6-4 with "Only Us" but is probably a couple weeks away still, from a chance at the top. And don't forget Ariel Pink's "Crybaby" and another Brit outfit, Tinkers Lane's "Honey Honey", both making impressive moves within or into the top 10.
Big movers further down the list include Aaron Frazer's "Over You" (28-15), Bryan Hansen Band's "Waiting For Tomorrow" (38-24); David F. Porfirio's "That Night On Bergenline Avenue" (60-31, Mover of the Week) and Frances Forever's "Space Girl" (65-34).
Eight adds this week, headed by psych-rockers Maybird, best known for their blog #1 from 2017 "Turning Into Water". "Dreamcatcher" is a more slowed-down dreamy psych-pop confection, off the EP Bird Sides. Close behind is Future Islands' "Plastic Beach". The Baltimore band had a blog top 5 song in 2015 with "Seasons (Waiting On You)". The new one is a mid to up-tempo emotional song, with Samuel T. Herrings vocals soulful and deep, which in a way reminds me of 1960's-70''s balladeer Larry Santos.
Also added are Californian Gracie Abrams' "Friends", her blog debut; Sunflower Bean, the Long Island, NY band that hit my top 30 in 2017, is back with "Moment in the Sun"; Clairo is a singer from Massachusetts who enters with "Sofia" and whose "Bags" got up to #75 on the blog two years ago; the new one from veterans Weezer, with "All My Favorite Songs", and finally Mabel follows her top 10 "Mad Love" with a collaboration with Clean Bandit and current pop hitter 24KGoldn with "Tick Tock". Incidentally, Mabel's mother is Neneh Cherry, noted for her big 1989 hit "Buffalo Stance" and a couple of 1993 songs on my year-end list. Cherry is also featured on the current Avalanches' "Wherever You Go" which peaked at #9 a few weeks ago.
