Getting Back Outdoors! (SNS week of 6/14/2020)

Yes, this one is late.   That's nothing new, except, since we're now in the fourth month of the COVID-19 pandemic, is it me, or are the days just flying by?  I've pretty much retired from work as a teacher substitute; that pretty much ended when the schools shut down three months ago; many of those who I subbed for graduate this week.

With all the issues that have been happening between the civil unrest and the pandemic, luckily, people are still listening to...and releasing new music.   Even better, is that beginning June 15, restaurants are now allowing outside dining where previously only allowed takeout.   And some of my favorite outside venues like the Jefferson House up here on Lake Hopatcong, as well as Martell's Tiki Bar down in Point Pleasant Beach on the Jersey shore not only have outside seating by the lake and ocean, respectively, but live music as well.     And Nicholas Ciavatta, who has been introducing local acts via social media, for his Friggin' Fabulous Productions, had his first outside show in Jersey City this past weekend.     Of course, social distancing is still required (tables that these places are still need to be at least six feet from each other), and masks are still needed when close, and not eating.

Since I am a week behind, I will leave that there.   The Rolling Stones return to my top spot on my playlist with "Living in a Ghost Town", with Hawaiian based reggae band Pepper making a big jump to the #2 spot with "Change", which exceeds their #3 "Wake Up" from ten years ago.   Since it seems that the days are going by quicker and there's a big logjam in the top 25 portion of the SNS 100, some other great songs are moving up slower and I'm not done with my "heavy hitters" yet, so I just added four songs this week.

I'm excited by the latest by Real Estate, the band originally from Ridgewood, NJ, with "Paper Cup" which features the duo Sylvan Esso.  Real Estate had top 5 blog hits with "Time" and "It's Real", while Esso has appeared twice on my list as well.   The combo makes an excellent listen, a dreamy indie pop/rock confection.   This should be in my top 20 in no time!.  Weezer returns with "Hero", another from their recent Van Weezer set.    Before their blog top 10 "Fire", Black Pumas had topped Billboard's Triple-A chart with "Colors", but I hadn't played along at the time, so it's time to give that one a listen.   Finally, over to the pop side, Lewis Capaldi's "Before You Go", gets a listen.
