Going to make this one brief: Neko Case holds at the top spot for a third week at the top with "Bad Luck". Curtis Harding, Kungs and Florence + the Machine take the next three spots. Leon Bridges continues to bullet in the top 10, while Tennis flies 25-12 with yet another great song from Yours Conditionally. When are people going to discover this awesome duo?
The biggest news this week is the Top Debut: Weezer's "Africa". Yes, this is a cover of Toto's #1 hit from the autumn of 1982. It comes in at #77, and is the quartet's follow up to their awesome "Happy Hour" which hit top 3 here and was their best song in years. It is already top 10 on the Alternative chart, besting "Happy Hour" and has made the Billboard Hot 100, their first to do so since 2009. The song is not currently available on an album. Apparently, they had also released a version of Toto's "Rosanna", a #2 hit from that band's "IV" album earlier in 1982 as sort of a teaser five days before the official release of "Africa'. Musically, it's an OK cover, at first listen, the band really doesn't bring anything new, but if you liked the original, this one won't disappoint.
Also added were the new one from Death Cab For Cutie, with "Gold Rush", with has a bit of a hip-hoppish beat, probably an attempt to escape from the stagnation of their recent work; "Quarter Past Midnight" by Bastille, a British band, from a forthcoming third album; "Life to Fix" by The Record Company, a top 5 Triple-A format song from the L.A.-based rock trio; Young the Giant's "Simplify", from the Irvine CA's upcoming fourth album; the band has had success here with six top 20 SNS hits, including two #1's; and Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweat's second off of their Tearing At the Seems album, and Jersey native Phoebe Ryan with "Almost Back".
