Moon Taxi stays at the top for a third week with "Two High" in an increasingly sluggish SNS 100 this week. Hegazy, Bleachers and Christina Taylor continue their upward movement in the top 20, while Tennis continues to be the big mover and enters the top 20, along with The Decemberists and Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats.
But beyond the top 20, the situation is pretty grave. Two bands that I had heard on Vermont radio station WEQX during my two recent ski weekends, have the Mover of the Week and Top Debut honors; they are veteran Jeff Rosenstock, who has been with various bands over the past ten years or so, and lovelytheband's debut single "Broken" is the Top Debut of the week.
This is a pretty lean time for music, at least from my standpoint. I will cover it more in a future blog, but only 83 songs have points this week, the fewest since the fourth week of my blog in September 2010. Of course, it's the old adage, "there's still good music out there, you just need to dig deep to find it". And I pretty much haven't done that. All songs below 83 are pretty much running on fumes. This explains why, a quarter of a year past the holiday season, why there are still Christmas songs listed.
