Thinking of You (SNS 7-13 -7/20/2014)

After an 8 week run as my top song, The Black Keys finally fall from #1 with their' "Fever", as I continue my 'catch-up".  Taking its place is the melancholy "Think of You", by MS MR.  It's the duo's third single off their second effort, Secondhand Rapture, following "Fantasy", and their first charted song, "Hurricane", which barely dented my SNS 100.     It reached #37 on Billboard's Alternative chart which paled in comparison to its immediate predecessor/ .  Then again, my tastes never agreed with anyone else's.     I heard "Think of You" back in April when I first got my new car and with it, my Sirius XM Satellite radio.    The "alt-nation" channel is what I usually listen to, and it got some airplay back then, although it was a disappointment which the song didn't make their top 18 oountdown.  But I love it.   The lyrics in the chorus, "I still think of you / and all the s**t you put me through" I am sure many can relate to.

As I continue to "catch up" this summer, many great new songs are starting to replace the old-timers that are finally leaving my list.  "Best Friend" by Foster the People has finally permeated my mind; this one is as catchy as "Pumped Up Kicks", unfortunately, this time, pop radio isn't aboard, but that's fine, it for us alt-fans to enjoy.  That song flies into my top 10 (#14 to #5), as does "Summer" by Calvin Harris (#15 to #6).   It's basically the only "summer" song on my list this year (Dirty Heads' "My Sweet Summer", I believe is about a girl named "Summer"), and it's vying for the top spot, hoping to repeat last year's seasonal song "At the Beach" by Paul Czekaj, which topped my list for six weeks.     That song, like much of Harris' output, you gotta love the instrumental/synth-like breaks in it, and the video, of a drag race, is interesting as well.

The three new entries in the Top 20 include the girl-group Tacocat, which is a pop/punk hybrid, echoing the girl groups of the early 60's as well as the new wave revival in the early 80's (The Vivian Girls' "Take It As It Comes" also fits into that category).    Hozier's haunting "Take Me to Church" I have discussed before, and, while we're still waiting for a third official single, Fitz & the Tantrums' "6 AM". Enters at #17.

WHAT IS A RIMBAUD?:   My top debut this week is "Rimbaud Eyes", by Dum Dum Girls, the second single from their Too True.   It was also a recent Brian Sniatkowski Song of the Week as well.   It's a driving, hardcore pop-alternative song, but catch enough.  Gone is the somberness of their SNS #1 "Coming Down" from almost three years ago.  This should follow 'Lost Boys and Girls Club" into the top 20.
