FIRST UP, I want to say "sorry" for the lateness of this blog, which should have been out last week. It's been hectic regarding getting my house in order as it goes on the market in a couple of weeks. Thus this one will be very brief; the next one I hope to talk about what happened last week, specifically the passing of teen idol Bobby Sherman, in which many of my female friends growing up, posted a memory of him that he was their "first heartthrob". I'll try, if time permits, to discuss the importance of teen idols in the record industry, or at least my take on it, in the next blog.
I won't touch the Hot 100, as it's the same songs as last week, with the exception of positions one and two, as Alex Warren's "Ordinary" takes back the top from "Manchild" by Sabrina Carpenter. That song, predicted to drop completely out of the top ten, only dropped to #2.
On the SNS 100, Jerry Powell grabs his first blog number one as "Dance With Me" advances 2-1. It also sits atop several other beach charts as well. It's the seventh Carolina Beach music song to hit #1 on the SNS 100 this year, one off the record of 8, set in 2023. Six songs of this week's top 10 are in that genre.
Suki Waterhouse has the Impact award with "Dream Woman" (22-12), it becomes her biggest blog hit. Steve Cheek's "Beach Walkin'" also enters the top 20 (27-19). Anna Lavigne's "Night Dreams", the title track from her new album, grabs Mover honors (78-49).
New entries include the Top Debut from Juliet Callahan with "Running Lights", a return to her solid alt-pop stance of songs like "Burning"; her best in quite a while; Legendary beach music band The Tams, are back with the Charlie Sattenfield-penned "My True Love", which echoes their 1968 hit "Be Young, Be Beautiful, Be Happy". Ruth Morayniss, follows her twin hits "Black Doves" and "Any Day Now", with "Easy Does It", a nice, tender, folky ballad with country overtones; Icelanders KALEO return with "Bloodline" in their usual haunting style; MT Jones follows up his "I'd Be Lyin'" with "Punchin'", in a very soulful Al Green-style song; Easha's "Stunning" sort in the style of Billie Eilish and other current songstresses; "Ripple" (not the Grateful Dead song), by Good Neighbors, a mid-tempo chugger with some good harmonies, reminiscent of Fitz and the Tantrums; and "Phase Disintegrate" which is sort of in the prog-alternative mode, and a rather dreamy one, by Psychic Air, which is the project of New Jersey artist Taylor Parenti.
